SMSU BASEBALL: Kiser named NSIC Pitcher of the Week

BURNSVILLE — Southwest Minnesota State University sophomore right-handed pitcher Kolby Kiser was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday following an outstanding performance last Friday versus Northern State University.

Kiser, a native of Sebeka, tossed his first career 9-inning complete game in a 5-1 victory. He allowed just two hits and racked-up a career-high nine strikeouts, with no walks, while hitting two batters. Kiser, who finished the game throwing 103 pitches, including 72 for strikes, retired NSU in order in seven of the nine innings and ended the game retiring the last 11 batters he faced. His victory helped SMSU earn a three-game sweep over NSU and secure the program’s first weekend sweep since the 2017 season.

Kiser, a 2020 graduate of Sebeka High School, closed the season appearing in 12 games with 10 starts. He finished second on the team in both innings pitched (45.1) and strikeouts (49).

SMSU finished the season 17-26 overall, 10-21 NSIC. The Mustangs closed the season winning nine of its last 12 games, which included winning two weekend series and sweeping two mid-week doubleheaders.
