FAIRMONT — The Marshall baseball team earned a doubleheader split against Fairmont on Friday, falling in Game 1 5-1 before winning Game 2 6-5.

In Game 1, Tyler Maeyaert led Marshall with a hit while Connor Neubeck recorded an RBI. Maeyaert took the loss on the mound, going six innings while allowing five runs on six hits and struck out two.

In Game 2, Neubeck led Marshall with two hits and five RBIs while Seth Radtke added a hit and an RBI. Andrew Wallen earned the win on the mound, going 1 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on four hits and struck out two. Parker Schmitt threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and struck out four.

Marshall (8-6) will face Mankato East at home today at noon.

RUTHTON — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team defeated Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 14-4 in five innings on Friday.

Blake Christianson led RTR with three hits and three RBIs while Cody Wichmann added three hits and two RBIs and Hayden Gravley had a hit and two RBIs. Gravley earned the win on the mound, going five innings while allowing four runs on four hits and struck out 10.

RTR (5-5) will face RCW on the road today at 11 a.m.

WESTBROOK — A couple of area boys and girls golf teams competed in the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Invite on Friday. On the boys side, HLO/Fulda/WWG took first with a team score of 175, followed by Hills-Beaver Creek in second (190) and Wabasso in third (214). On the girls side, HLO/Fulda/WWG took first with a 211 while HBC took second (240) and Wabasso recorded an incomplete team score.
