SMSU TENNIS: Mustangs earn No. 3 seed in NSIC Tournament

BURNSVILLE — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s tennis team has earned the No. 3 seed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament on April 22-24 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Mustangs will face No. 6 seed Upper Iowa University in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 22, at 11:30 a.m. at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D.

SMSU, 16-10 overall, tied for third place in the final NSIC standings with Minnesota State and UMary with a record of 8-3, but the Mustangs defeated both teams in the regular season to earn the three-seed.

SMSU lost 4-3 to UIU on Feb. 26 in St. Peter.

The other quarterfinals pairings include (2) Winona State taking on (7) Sioux Falls at 9 a.m., at 2 p.m. (1) Augustana takes on (8) St. Cloud State and the 4:30 p.m. match has (4) Minnesota State versus (5) the University of Mary. All start times are subject to change if earlier matches run long. No matches will begin early than the announced start time.

Both semifinal matches will be play Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. with the championship match set for Sunday, April 24, at 10 a.m.
