PREP FOOTBALL: Minneota prepared for championship matchup today against Mayer Lutheran

MINNEOTA — Last weekend, the Minneota football team maintained its strong play with a 28-8 victory against Rushford-Peterson in the Class A semifinals.

Conner Sik led Minneota with 173 rushing yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns while AJ Josephson added 44 yards on the ground on 10 carries. Isaac Pohlen completed six of his 16 pass attempts for 121 yards and a touchdown while Cale Sorensen led in receiving with 59 yards on three catches, Jonah Gruenes added 44 yards on two receptions and Peyton Gillund had an 18-yard score.

Defensively, Tucker Thooft led Minneota with six total tackles while Zack Fier and Max Rost each had four total tackles.

Today, the Vikings will look to bring home another championship trophy when they face Mayer Lutheran in the Class A championship at U.S. Bank Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Minneota enters the game with a 13-0 record and has earned shutouts in nine games. The Vikings have outscored their opponents 524-33 and have averaged 40.3 points per game.

On the other side, Mayer Lutheran enters with an overall record of 12-1 after defeating New York Mills 41-6 in the semifinals and has won 12 straight games. Offensively, the Crusaders have averaged 38.1 points per game and outscored their opponents 495-106. They will be led by Ty Hoese, Abram Jopp, Elijah Jopp, Samuel Dennis, Brayden Bury and Marcus Johnson.
