SMSU TENNIS: SMSU ends fall season with 4-3 victory

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over Doane University (Neb.) on Saturday afternoon at the Marshall High School courts in the team’s lone home match of the 2021-22 season.

SMSU, which improves to 4-1 overall, won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and secured the victory earning three victories in singles play.

Courtenay Leonard and Maja Louisa Harck picked up a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles with Cora Delich and Joana Reis Indio earning a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Liz Oye and Abbey Agra suffered a tight 7-5 loss at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Leonard earned a 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 1, while Reis Indio and Daniela Poulakidas both earned 6-2, 6-4 victories at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively. Harck suffered a 7-5, 6-4 loss at No. 2, Delich lost 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3, while Marisol Palacio was handed a 6-1, 6-3 setback at No. 6.

Doane, which won the Great Plains Athletic Conference last spring, is now 1-2 on the season.

Southwest Minnesota State will return to action in February.
