SMSU CROSS COUNTRY: SMSU closes fall season at NSIC Championships

WAYNE, Neb. — The Southwest Minnesota State University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships on Saturday.

Women

The SMSU women’s team placed 14th out of 16 teams. Augustana won the team title with 20 points with UMary taking home second place with 84 points. Lindsay Cunningham from Winona State won the individual title with a time of 21:21. SMSU closed the meet with 426 points.

Caitlyn Regan led the Mustangs in the 6,000-meter race with a time of 25:51 to place 98th overall.

Catherine Ihrke placed 110th with a time of 26:36, with Josephine Lentz finishing 112th with a time of 27:07.

Savanna Busch ran 27:18 to finish 114th; Macie Langstraat placed 120th with a time of 27:38.48; Brycelyn Hanson finished in 121st place with a time of 27:38.83, while Abby Schotter ran 28:30 to finish 127th.

Men

The SMSU men’s team placed 13th out of 14 teams. Augustana captured the team title with 15 points, while UMary finished in second place with 83 points. Austin Miller from Augustana won the individual title with a course record time of 24:48. SMSU finished the race recording 380 points.

Zack Jones paced the Mustangs in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 28:02 to finish 75th overall.

Brayden Tofteland placed 85th with a time of 28:19, with John Ziemkowski finishing 88th at 28:35.

Isaac Engbers ran 29:00 to finish 96th; Ruben Montoya placed 116th with a time of 30:40; Patrick Jenkins finished in 123rd place with a time of 32:39, while Ryan Russek ran 33:33 to finish 124th.
