SMSU VOLLEYBALL: SMSU moves into the top five in latest AVCA Coaches Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After starting the NSIC season 2-0 with a four set win against Bemidji State and a win against Minnesota Crookston in straight sets, the Southwest Minnesota State University volleyball team (10-0) finds themselves ranked No. 5 in the third regular season American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Division II weekly poll released on Monday afternoon.

SMSU, unranked in the preseason poll losing only three sets while beating two top-12 teams. SMSU received 955 points, and accumulated nine first place votes.

SMSU is one of six NSIC schools ranked in this week’s Top 25 with Concordia-St. Paul dropping to No. 6, Wayne State falling to No. 8, Winona State at No. 11, and this weekend’s opponents Minnesota Duluth (No. 19) and St. Cloud State (No. 20) joining the Mustangs.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to the court today opening its home conference schedule with Augustana (6-4) at 6 p.m. in PE Gym.

The Mustangs will face St. Cloud State (7-3) at 6 p.m. Friday, and close their weekend against Minnesota Duluth (7-3) with the match set to begin at 2 p.m.
