SMSU TENNIS: SMSU splits a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday
NORTHFIELD — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday versus NCAA Division III teams, earning a 6-3 win over St. Olaf, before losing 7-2 to Carleton.
SMSU, now 3-1 overall, won five singles matches in the victory over St. Olaf (0-1). Courtenay Leonard at No. 1, Cora Delich at No. 2, Joana Reis Indio at No. 3 and Roz Oye at No. 6 singles all won in straight sets. Abbey Agra earned a hard-fought 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory at No. 5 singles.
In doubles play, Delich and Reis Indio earned the Mustangs a team point with an 8-7 (7-3) victory.
In the setback to Carleton (2-0), Maja Louisa Harck picked up SMSU’s lone singles victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3.
SMSU’s lone victory in doubles play came at No. 3 with Reis Indio and Marisol Palacio teaming for an 8-6 win.
Southwest Minnesota State will now have a few weeks over before hosting Doane University (Neb.) for the team’s final fall match scheduled for Oct. 16.
