SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU back in action today in Mankato

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s track & field team are back in action today in Mankato, competing at the NSIC Friends Outdoor Challenge hosted by Minnesota State University at the MSU Track Complex.

Field events will begin the day at 12 p.m. with track events starting at 2 p.m.

Heading into today’s meet, Isatu Shirek for the SMSU women’s team has the eighth fastest time among NSIC athletes in the 100 hurdles at 14.64 and the ninth fastest time in the 400 hurdles at 1:04.52. Rebecca Manteuffel ranks fifth in the discus at 47.11m and sixth in the shot put at 14.23m.

Renald Pierre’s time of 14.99 in the 110 hurdles ranks fourth among NSIC athletes. Connor Wigand ranks fourth in the shot put at 16.55m and sixth in the discus at 47.82m. McKallen Smith has the fifth best mark in the high jump at 1.98m, while Jed Hansen has the eighth highest mark in the pole vault at 4.35m. Isaiah Nelson has a mark of 13.71m in the triple jump ranking seventh overall.

Following today’s meet, the Mustangs will compete at the University of South Dakota Tune-Up on May 7, before competing at the NSIC Championships on May 13-15 in Duluth.
