PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Lakeview baseball opens season with victory over Canby

COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview baseball team improved to 1-0 on the season after notching an 8-2 victory over visiting Canby on Thursday in its season opener .

The Lakers were led at the plate by Brock Kvistad who went 2-4 with a pair of singles. Caine Herigon, Connor Larsen, Cayden Caron, Luke Sander and Ayden St. Pierre also contributed a hit. Herigon earned the win on the hill for the Lakers after pitching five innings and giving up one earned run.

Canby totaled three hits in the contest with Easton Anthony, Hunter Cleveland and Kaden Reyerson all recording base hits. Tanner Drietz took the loss on the hill for the Lancers.

MCC dual meet

SLAYTON — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys and girls golf team defeated Murray County Central in a dual meet on Thursday. WWG shot a team score of 227 while MCC had a 247 in girls golf while WWG had a score of 211 and MCC shot a 230 in boys golf.

Girls

For WWG, Lexi Herding led with a score of 49 while Madison Martin shot a 58, Ivy Paplow had a 59 and Emma Wahl had a 61.

For MCC, Ciera Tutt led with a score of 52 while Ava Johnson had a 61, Elie Meyer had a 64 and Rachael Huso had a 70. Karlie Schaur added a 71 and Symone Harms had a 72 to round out the scoring for MCC.

Boys

For WWG, Nathan Kuehl led with a 41 while Brady Ross shot a 49, Hunter Lien had a 59 and Neil Kuel had a 62. Kole Curry shot a 63 while Aidan Mumm had a 70 to round out WWG’s scores.

For MCC, Dawson Tutt led with a 53 while Trey Veldhuisen shot 54, McKade Gillette had a 56 and Alex Santay had a 67. Talan Felber shot a 72 to round out the scoring for MCC.

WWG and MCC will compete next on Saturday at Worthington at 9 a.m.
