NEW ULM — The No. 5-ranked Marshall in Class AAA remained perfect when it crushed New Ulm 100-53 on Monday in a Big South Conference girls’ basketball game.

Jordyn Hilgemann scored Marshall’s first eight points after the opening tip-off. She had 20 points in the first half and she finished the contest with 30 points. Brianna Simpson added 10 points for the Tigers.

During the first half, both teams employed full-court presses. Marshall’s press created turnovers which led to points for it. Marshall later switched to a trap defense which kept the Eagles off-balance.

Danya Estrada scored on a New Ulm turnover and she hit a 3-pointer on the next trip down the court. Ella Ahrens scored on a fast-break layup and Natalie Bianchi scored for the Eagles.

Hilgemann answered for Marshall with a basket, a steal, another basket and a free throw. Corrin Naughton canned a 3-pointer for a 36-10 Tiger advantage.

As the first half was drawing to a close, Marshall’s Ashleigh Steinbach and New Ulm’s Miranda Suess traded 3s, making it 57-20 Marshall at halftime.

Hilgemann opened up the second half by nailing a 3-point shot on the Tigers’ first possession. Dreckman took matters into her own hands by answering for the Eagles with two free throws and a second-chance basket. Marshall’s Abby Wendorff countered with a 3-point shot of her own.

Midway through the second half, Hilgemann threw a bounce pass to Wendorff, who scored a basket. On Marshall’s next possession, Hilgemann passed the ball to Emily Meier, who scored.

Dreckman then scored a basket. An Eagle shot the ball and missed, but Dreckman was there to grab the rebound and score.

Marshall hit the century mark when Brooke Andries scored with 1:26 left in the contest. New Ulm had missed a shot, the Tigers rebounded the ball and they got it to Andries.

Hopp and Dennis nailed 3s on the Eagles’ final two possessions.

Dreckman led New Ulm with 18 points and two steals. Bryn Nesvold added 8 points and four rebounds. Hopp scored 8 points off the bench and Morgan Hulke had one assist off the bench.

New Ulm (2-8, 1-7) will host Kasson-Mantorville on Friday. Marshall (11-0, 10-0) hosts Worthington on Friday.
