Marshall awards bid for Independence Park paving

MARSHALL — The city of Marshall plans to pave a gravel parking lot serving Independence Park. On Tuesday, members of the Marshall City Council approved a roughly $197,000 bid to build a concrete parking lot with curbs and gutters and storm sewer.

“This is the for the gravel parking lot that comes off of Nuese Lane and G Street,” said Marshall public works director Jason Anderson.

Anderson said the city received four bid proposals for the parking lot work, with the low bid coming from Towne & Country Excavating, LLC, of Garvin. The low bid came in at $197,216.

That was below the engineer’s estimate for the project, Anderson said.

The city’s 2024 capital budget includes $130,000 for paving the Nuese Lane/G Street parking lot. Agenda packet materials for Tuesday’s council meeting said Community Services staff also found ways of deferring some improvements at Legion Field into future years, to help accommodate the cost of the parking lot project.

Council members voted 6-1 to enter into an agreement with Towne & Country Excavating for the parking lot project. Council member James Lozinski cast the vote against.
