PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys soccer falls to Worthington in Section 2A semifinals

WORTHINGTON –The Marshall boys soccer team entered Wednesday’s Section 2A semifinal game on a roll, winning its last four games, including a 4-3 double overtime victory against St. Peter last week in the quarterfinal round.

Standing in its way was the team that had given Marshall its only two losses on the season — Worthington. Despite a spirited effort, Marshall wasn’t able to snap its streak against Worthington as the Trojans earned a 1-0 victory to advance to the Section 2A championship game.

Neither side would find scoring in the first half, and the majority of the second half resulted in a scoreless tie as well. Then, with about 12:30 left, Worthington was able to find the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Marshall continued to fight, however, and had one final chance in the closing seconds to get the equalizer and force overtime, but the corner kick attempt was broken up quickly.

With the loss, Marshall’s season comes to a close with an overall record of 6-3-3. Marshall also graduates 15 seniors.
