Marshall’s season ends with 6-4 loss to Paynesville
GLENWOOD — The Marshall A’s season came to a close on Sunday, as they fell to Paynesville by a 6-4 score in a Region 4C Tournament elimination game.
The A’s led heading into the eighth inning, but the Pirates tied the score at 4-4 in the eighth by using three walks before scoring two runs on two walks, a wild pitch and an error in the ninth inning to take the lead.
Wes Sarsland got the start and threw 7 2/3 innings.
Marshall’s season ends with a 6-11 record.
Milroy Yankees 2 (10 innings)
GLENWOOD — After defeating Paynesville 2-1 on Saturday, the Milroy Yankees amateur baseball team would go to extra innings in their next matchup against Starbuck but ultimately fell 3-2 in 10 innings on Sunday.
Matt Bauer led the way for the Yankees with two hits and an RBI while Cody Greve and Andy Schmidt each added two hits of their own and Derek Rasmussen had a hit as well.
Austin Deutz earned the start on the mound, going 8 1/3 innings while allowing two runs on nine hits and struck out six.
The Yankees drop to the consolation bracket of the tournament and will face Raymond this Saturday at 11 a.m. in Starbuck.
GLENWOOD — In the Region 4C Tournament opener on Saturday, the A’s had a 1-0 lead over Starbuck through five innings before the Stars put up three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. It was the last runs scored in the game, as Starbuck earned the 3-1 win.
Zach Olson went the distance and struck out 10 Stars batters in the loss.
The A’s scored their run in the top of the fourth, as King Blanchette singled home Logan Tomasek. Blanchette recorded a team-high two hits for Marshall.
Yankees 2, Paynesville 1
GLENWOOD — The Milroy Yankees amateur baseball team opened its Region 4C tournament with a matchup against Paynesville on Saturday. Thanks to a pair of late runs, the Yankees were able to survive and earn a 2-1 victory over the Pirates.
Derek Rasmussen led the way for the Yankees with two hits while Aaron Mathiowetz and Brian Dolan each added a hit and an RBI.
Nathan Deutz earned the complete-game victory on the mound, allowing one run on four hits and struck out 10.
