SMSU swimming & diving team earns scholar award from CSCAA

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s swimming and diving team earned Scholar All-American honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recently for its efforts in the classroom during the 2020 spring semester.

To earn the honor, teams must post a 3.0 GPA or higher for the spring semester. SMSU, in its inaugural collegiate season under the direction of head coach Marty Wahle, recorded a team GPA of 3.41 in the spring semester after posting a fall semester GPA of 3.34.

“No team was unaffected by this Spring’s pandemic, but SMSU Director of Athletics Chris Hmielewski and University President Dr. Kumara Jayasuriya can and should be proud of their team and the work of Marty,” said CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart.

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the first organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
