Marshall 17U Black goes 1-2 in Brandon Valley tournament
BRANDON (S.D.) — The Marshall Black 17U baseball team went 1-2 in its tournament in Brandon (S.D.) over the weekend, falling to Pierre (S.D.) 5-2 in four innings before bouncing back to beat Aberdeen (S.D.) 6-5 in four innings on Saturday. Marshall then faced Brandon Valley (S.D.) on Sunday, but fell 7-1 in five innings.
Against Pierre, Jacob Eben led the way for Marshall with a 2 for 2 day at the plate while Brock Schultz added a hit and an RBI and Keaton Maertens had an RBI.
Eben took the loss on the mound, going 3 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out seven.
Against Aberdeen, Owen Knochenmus led the way for Marshall with a 2 for 2 day at the plate and an RBI while Kaden Brinkman added a hit and three RBI.
Zach Allen earned the start for Marshall, going 2 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on three hits and striking out three. Preston Hoflock earned the victory in relief, going 1 1/3 innings while allowing just one run on two hits.
Against Brandon Valley, AJ Toulouse led the way for Marshall with a 2 for 2 day at the plate and an RBI while Connor Neubeck and Kaden Brinkman each added a hit.
Preston Hoflock took the loss on the mound, going 1 1/3 innings while allowing five runs on one hit and striking out one.
