SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Mustangs assistant coach to compete at USATF Indoor Championships

MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota State University assistant track & field coach Lizzie Virgl will compete at the Toyota USA Track & Field Indoor Championships this Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.

Virgl, in her first season as an assistant coach at SMSU, will compete in the weight throw starting at 11 a.m. MST. Virgl’s personal best toss of 19.64m ranks 12th among the competitors at the championship.

Virgl competed collegiately at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she was a 2018 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor champion in the hammer throw.

Current SMSU junior student-athlete Rebecca Manteuffel also qualified for the USA Indoor Championship with a personal best 18.86m, but will not compete due to the upcoming NSIC and NCAA Indoor championships.

The USA Track & Field Indoor Championship will be held inside the Albuquerque Convention Center. NBC Sports Network will have coverage from 9:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. PST on Friday, while on Saturday NBC will have coverage from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. PST.
