SMSU WRESTLING: Vikings pull away from Mustangs in Friday dual
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After holding a one-point lead heading into intermission of the dual, the Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (2-4, 2-3 NSIC) were edged out by Augustana (6-2, 3-0 NSIC), who won the rest of the bouts outright for a 27-10 victory on Friday night in the Elmen Center.
The dual started at 184 in which the Vikings earned a decision victory for an early three-point lead. Jackson Ryan (197) then earned his third consecutive conference bout victory with a win by fall at 7:51 over AU’s Daniel Bishop.
The Vikings would pick up a decision victory at 285 to tie the dual at 6-6 before Hunter Pfantz (125) earned a victory by major decision at 11-3 over Ethan Cota for a 10-6 lead.
That would be the last bout victory for the Mustangs as the Vikings would win the rest of the bouts outright to secure the 27-10 victory.
Southwest Minnesota State travels to York, Neb., today to face Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and York College (Neb.) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
