MARSHALL –Thursday’s triangular between Marshall, Windom/MLA and United also was significant in that it was “Pin Cancer Night”, with the Tigers raising money to honor the late Donny Wichmann as well as those who have been affected by cancer.

Bouwman said although this was really the first time they’ve held an event like it, they wanted to show those who have been affected by cancer that they’re right there with them in the fight against it as well as being able to pay tribute to Wichmann’s legacy and memory.

“This is really kind of the first ‘Pin Cancer Night’ we’ve had. We’ve been to a lot and helped with a lot of them but I think it’s about trying to be as proactive as we can to show everybody we’re fighting there with them and to do those things,” Bouwman said. “Donny was a great part of this program like I said in the presentation a little bit, he’s No. 1 in our winning percentage on our board right now. He did a lot for our program as well, he donated 16 pairs of shoes at the end. Kids are using them and we’ve got a lot of kids that we can get out because of those things, we have the ability to give them some stuff and help them out that way. It’s nice to see those things pay off.”
