PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Strong second half fuels comeback win for Marshall

MANKATO — The Marshall girls basketball team overcame an 11-point halftime deficit with a huge second half to earn a 67-54 victory over Mankato West on Saturday. Trailing 26-15 at the break, the Tigers outscored the Scarlets 52-28 in the second frame to come away with the win.

Jordyn Hilgemann led the way for the Tigers with 31 points while Abby Wendorff added 16 and Emily Meier and Lenei Estrada each had six. Meier led in rebounds with nine and in assists with two while Natalee Sample led in steals with five.

Marshall will face Luverne on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Camryn Bunting led the way for the Chargers with eight points while Bethany Byers and Alli VandeKieft each added three. Kelsey DeSmith led in rebounds with eight while VandeKieft, DeSmith and Bunting led in assists with one each.

WWG will face Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Aubrey Kaczmarek led the way for the Lakers with 11 points while Savanna Louwagie, Kaitlynn Bot and Shelby Gravley each added 10. Gravley led in rebounds with 13 while Kiana Imes led in assists with four.

Lakeview will face MACCRAY on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Milbank (S.D.) Duals

MILBANK, S.D. — The Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo United and Minneota wrestling teams competed in the Milbank (S.D.) dual tournament on Saturday. United went 3-1, defeating Lennox (S.D.) 63-13, Milbank (S.D.) 55-21 and Sioux Falls Washington (S.D.) 41-29 and fell to Harrisburg (S.D.) 43-22 while Minneota also went 3-1, with the Vikings defeating Lennox 65-15, Milbank 54-19 and Sioux Falls Washington 58-18 and falling to Harrisburg 44-22.

United

Against Harrisburg, Zander Clausen won by major decision while Dain Mortenson and Trey Teichert won by a pin and Layton Wittnebel and Ross Kwilinski won by decision to lead the way for United.

Against Lennox, Daniel Gunlogson and Clausen won by forfeit while Tyler Schickedanz, Kadin Huntley, Holt Larson, Layton Wittnebel, Eli Lowry, Landon Olson, Kwilinski and Teichert all won by a pin and Avery Wittnebel won by decision to lead the way for United.

Against Milbank, Gunlogson won by major decision while Clausen, Layton Wittnebel and Ethen Montantes won by a pin, Schickedanz, Landen Knoshal, Larson, Kwilinski and Teichert won by forfeit and Avery Wittnebel won by decision to lead the way for United.

Minneota

Against Lennox, Troy Vankeulen and Peyton Gillund won by forfeit while Eric Carrasco, Kade Lozinski, Blake Reiss, Branden Johnson, Cole Sanow, Hudson Scholten, Jackson Esping and Jayden Gamrak won by a pin and Jonah Gruenes won by technical fall to lead the way for Minneota.

Against Harrisburg, Carrasco won by major decision while Zack Fier and Reiss won by decision, Lozinski won by a pin and Gruenes won by injury default to lead the way for Minneota.

Against Milbank, Vankeulen won by major decision while Ezequiel Munzon, Alex Depestel, Esping and Gamrak won by forfeit, Fier won by decision, Gruenes won by technical fall and Lozinski, Reiss and Sanow won by a pin to lead the way for Minneota.

Against Sioux Falls Washington, Gillund, Vankeulen, Carrasco, Truman Wambeke, Lozinksi, Gruenes, Esping and Gamrak won by a pin while Fier won by major decision and Reiss won by forfeit to lead the way for Minneota.

Minneota will compete on Tuesday at Redwood Falls at 5 p.m.

Tom Keating Invite

FOLEY — The Canby wrestling team competed at the Tom Keating Invite on Saturday.

Josh Steffen (195 weight class) took first place by decision while Lane Fink (113 weight class), Kalib Greenman (170 weight class) and Denver Noyes (285 weight class) all took third by decision, Hunter Cleveland (160 weight class) took sixth by a pin and Brayden Gravdal (132 weight class) took seventh by a pin to lead the way for Canby.

Canby will compete on Friday at Osakis at 4 p.m.

CLARA CITY — The Canby girls basketball team defeated MACCRAY 36-32 on Friday.

Hannah Jelen led the way for the Lancers with 19 points while Aidyn Bruns added seven and Charlotte Wright had four. Maya Wente led in rebounds with 16 while Mckenzie Ruether and Jayla Hulzebos led in assists with two each.

Canby will face Renville County West on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
