PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall goes on late run in 6-3 win over Windom Area

Independent file photo In this Dec. 19, 2019 file photo, Marshall’s Joe Archbold scores on a breakway during their game against Fairmont. The Tigers beat the Windom Eagles 6-3 on Monday.

WINDOM – A quick look at the Big South standings in boys hockey, and you’d see the Marshall Tigers near the top of the standings with the Windom Eagles in the league’s bottom half of teams.

That didn’t matter early, as Windom held a 2-1 lead in the first period. The Tigers would tie the game up before the first intermission on a goal from Jenson Meyer.

Marshall would add a goal by Joe Archbold in the second — his second of the night — before the Eagles tied the score again early in the third.

From that point on, it was all Tigers as the road team scored three unanswered goals from Bryson Whyte, Marco Bayer and Tristan VanDeVere to take control of the game.

Dominik Caspers recorded 25 saves in the win, as the Tigers finished with a 34-28 advantage in shots on goal.

Marshall (12-6) will travel to Fairmont on Thursday.
