MARSHALL – After holding their home invitational last weekend, the Marshall gymnastics team continued its homestand on Thursday night with a dual meet against Windom/Mountain Lake Area. Despite a spirited effort, the Tigers came up just short, falling 123.350-122.900.

Marshall coach Larvita McFarquhar said she was proud of the way they stepped up and continued to work on new skills but added a few mistakes hurt them in the end.

“I was very proud of them, they stepped up and worked on some new skills,” coach McFarquhar said. “They had a couple of falls that took us out of first place, but that’s okay, we have to go back into the gym and work a little bit harder.”

Cameen McFarquhar led the way for the Tigers with an 8.825 on vault, 7.325 on the uneven bars, 7.750 on the balance beam and 7.600 on the floor exercise for an all-around score of 31.500 and a second-place finish. Clara Bader added scores of 8.475 on vault, 6.725 on beam and 7.650 on floor for an all-around score of 22.850 while Saphi McFarquhar had scores of 8.300 on bars and 8.600 on beam and Dylan Kack added a 7.950 on vault and 6.150 on beam.

Hailey Hinze added a 6.600 on bars while Jocelyn Schlenner had a 7.550 on floor and Gabby Schlenner had a 6.200 on floor. Sydney Brandt added a 6.700 on bars while Leah Matzner had an 8.550 on vault and a 6.600 on beam, Kaylee VanHauwaert had a 6.525 on bars, Reagan Brandt had a 7.550 on floor and Reeanna Hansen had an 8.100 on vault to add to the Marshall effort.

Marshall will compete next on Monday at St. James Area at 6 p.m. Coach McFarquhar said their biggest takeaway will be trying to get rid of the silly mistakes and some of the nerves.

“Get rid of the silly mistakes and the falls that they’ve been sticking in practice and just getting out there and getting rid of the nerves,” she said.
