BLAINE — The Marshall girls hockey team fell to Waconia 3-1 in the opener of the Herb Brooks Classic on Monday.

Waconia got things started near the midway mark of the opening period with a goal to take a 1-0 lead, which it held going into the second frame. The Wildcats then extended their lead to 2-0 a few minutes into the second before adding a third goal with 1:40 left in the frame to make it 3-0.

The Tigers were able to get on the board with 1:11 remaining in the third period on a goal by Leah Schaefer on the assist from Tessa Gannott, but Waconia closed things out to earn the win.

Waconia outshot Marshall 38-20 on the game. Emma Klenken recorded 35 saves in net for the Tigers.

Marshall will face Irondale St. Anthony today at 10:30 a.m.

COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview girls basketball team fell to Adrian/Ellsworth 55-54 on Monday.

Shelby Gravley led the way for the Lakers with 27 points while Aubrey Kaczmarek added 15 and Kiana Imes had five. Gravley also led in rebounds with 29 while Kaczmarek added six and Kaitlynn Bot had five. Savanna Louwagie led in assists with three while Imes, Louwagie, Kaczmarek and Jaci Hubbard led in steals with two each.

Lakeview will face Lac qui Parle Valley on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
