SMSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: SMSU’s Reinhart earns NSIC South Division Player of the Week

BURNSVILLE — Southwest Minnesota State’s Meleah Reinhart earned NSIC South Division Player of the Week honors, announced on Tuesday afternoon. This is the first time Reinhart has received this award and is the second Mustang to earn the award under head coach Tom Webb, since Caleigh Rodning earned the award last season.

Reinhart, a 5-foot-9, junior guard from New Ulm, led SMSU to a 2-0 record in the opening weekend with victories over non-conference opponents, East Central (Okla.) and Ouachita Baptist (Ark.). Reinhart finished the weekend averaging 15.0 points per game after recording 18 points versus Ouachita Baptist. In the same game, Reinhart shot 71 percent from the field, going 5-of-7 from the field. Over the weekend, Reinhart made all 14 attempts at the free throw line. She finished with eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

Reinhart, an All-NSIC second team member from the 2018-19 season, finished a season ago with a team second-best 11.7 points per game. She finished the season shooting 42 percent (108 of 259) from the field, 42 percent from the 3-point line (43 of 102), and 82 percent from the free throw line (68 of 84).

In NSIC play last season, Reinhart ranked ninth in free throw pct (81.9), ninth in 3-point pct. (41.0), and 22nd in scoring (11.8).

In her three-year career, Reinhart has scored 537 points and has grabbed 146 rebounds. She ranks 10th in free throw percentage in SMSU history, recording 78 percent going 120-of-154.

Southwest Minnesota State (2-0) will open the home season on Saturday at 4 p.m. versus Presentation College (S.D.) in the R/A Facility.
