HUTCHINSON — The Marshall girls hockey team began its season on Tuesday night with a road matchup against Hutchinson. Hutchinson was able to use a quick start and never look back, as it defeated Marshall 8-2.

Hutch got things started early on in the first period, scoring 12:16 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. After finding another score just two minutes later, Hutchinson pushed its lead to 3-0 with 1:20 remaining in the first before adding another goal before the end of the frame with 21 seconds left to take a 4-0 lead after one.

Hutchinson continued to find quality shots right away in the second period, scoring just 54 seconds into the frame to make it 5-0 before adding another goal 5:53 into the frame to extend its lead to 6-0.

Marshall stayed on the attack, though, and was rewarded at the 12:53 mark as Kalyn DeVlieger found Kaitlyn Timm for the goal to cut the deficit to 6-1. MHS then added another goal 4:51 into the third period, this time with DeVlieger and Timm switching roles, as the freshman’s goal made it a 6-2 game.

Hutchinson would answer back, however, scoring 6:35 into the third before adding a goal 11 minutes into the frame to bring it to the 8-2 final.

Hutchinson outshot Marshall 49-16 on the game. Emma Klenken recorded 41 saves in net for Marshall in the loss.

Marshall (0-1) will face Willmar on Nov. 21 at 7:15 p.m.
