MARSHALL – After falling to an early deficit in the first half, Southwest Minnesota State’s Alli Miskowiec’s second career hat-trick lifted the Mustangs to a thrilling, 3-2 comeback double-overtime victory over Minnesota Duluth, to snap a five-game losing streak, on Friday night at the Schwan Regional Event Center.

Miskowiec, scored all goals for SMSU (7-6, 5-6 NSIC), including the game-winning goal with 17 seconds remaining in double-overtime to give the Mustangs their first overtime victory this season over UMD (4-8-2, 2-7-2 NSIC).

The Bulldogs started the scoring off in the 32ndminute as UMD’s Logan Nash scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Nan Glinsek.

UMD kept the lead until Miskowiec opened the second half scoring two goals, back-to-back, in under a minute. Miskowiec broke away down the middle of the field to score an unassisted goal with 57:49 on the clock. In the next possession, Abbey Hoisington booted the ball to Miskowiec as she sent the ball past the keeper with 58:28 on the clock.

SMSU then held a 2-1 lead over UMD up until the last five minutes of regulation as UMD’s leading scorer, Emily Hinz, tied the game up, assisted by Nash in the 85thminute.

After playing 10 minutes of the first overtime, the game heading into double overtime. With a draw insight, the minute clock ran down as Hoisington’s shot was a goalkeeper save and bounced the ball out of bounds to force a Mustang corner kick.

The corner was deflected to midfield as the Mustangs kept the ball on offense and found Miskowiec up the middle of the field to send the ball to the top right corner, to earn the hat-trick and the game-winning goal.

SMSU’s goalkeeper Amanda Haimes advances her record to 7-6 and recorded nine saves in the victory.

SMSU continues action on Sunday hosting St. Cloud State (7-3-3, 6-2-2 NSIC) at 1 p.m. at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
