ST. PETER — After setting their sights on it at the beginning of the season, the Marshall volleyball team crossed off one of its accomplishments as the Tigers defeated St. Peter 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-15) to win the Big South Conference championship for a sixth consecutive season.

The Tigers are the only team to win all six BSC titles in the history of the conference. Marshall coach Dan Westby said they’ve been fortunate to be able to come out on top in the conference and felt they did a good job adjusting to St. Peter’s play throughout the match.

“We’ve been fortunate to win the conference every time,” Westby said. “It took a while for us to adjust to St. Peter’s style of play, but as soon as we did, we were able to convert their plays into points and adjusted to their pace.”

Paige Andries and Bria Morris led the way for the Tigers with 10 kills each while Jordyn Hilgemann added nine. Mia Schnaible led in digs with 18 while Hilgemann added 11, and Rachel Schwarz led in set assists with 13 while Logan Sherman chipped in 12. Morris also led in blocks with three while Andries and Keziah Knudson each added two.

Marshall ends its regular season with a 24-5 record and will find out its Section 3AA tournament seeding and opponent today. As they turn their focus to postseason play, Westby said their biggest takeaway is to work on improving each player individually.

“We will look at who our opponent is, but right now our focus is on continuing to improve our players individually,” Westby said.
