PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Wabasso shuts out Sleepy Eye

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Sleepy Eye 39-0 on Friday.

Junior quarterback Carter Benz compiled three touchdowns in the win, finishing with 182 yards and a score through the air along with two scores and 15 yards on the ground.

Nick Marotzke led the Rabbits rushing attack with 92 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

Wabasso (2-0) travels to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Sep. 13.

MINNEOTA — The Minneota Vikings earned a 39-10 win over Lakeview on Friday.

Cole Sanow led the Minneota attack with 125 rushing yards and two scores. The Vikings also got rushing touchdowns from Blake Reiss, AJ Josephson and Joey Rybinski in the win.

Owen Louwagie scored the lone touchdown for Lakeview.

Both teams return to action on Sep. 13. Minneota (2-0) will travel to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton while Lakeview (1-1) will host Canby.

CANBY — Canby is off to its best start since 2012 with a 34-6 victory over Yellow Medicine East on Friday.

YME got on the board first on a passing touchdown from Cody Dahlager to Carter Sneller, but it was all Lancers over the final three quarters. Canby finished the win with a 237-131 advantage in total yardage.

Parker Viesman threw for 157 yards and two touchowns in the win. Kalib Greenman caught both touchdown passes, finishing with four receptions for 66 yards.

Ty Stoks led the Canby ground attack with 98 yards and a score on 11 carries. He also added a pick-six in the win.

Canby (2-0) travels to Lakeview on Sep. 13, while YME will host MACCRAY on the same night.

MCC 3, WWG 2

SLAYTON — Murray County Central earned a five-set victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Thursday.

Shelby Christensen led MCC with 16 kills and 11 digs.

Bryn Hoekman added 15 kills and nine blocks in the win, while Brynn Graphenteen recorded 33 set assists.

MCC hosts Canby on Monday while WWG hosts its home tournament today.

CMCS 3, YME 1

PRINSBURG — Central Minnesota Christian School defeated Yellow Medicine East 3-1 on Thursday.

Yansi Flores led YME with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Alli Steffen added seven kills and 12 digs in the loss.

YME is competing at the Southwest Minnesota Challenge this weekend.
