SMSU MEN’S BASKETBALL: SMSU ranks 25th in the country in attendance

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA recently announced its 2018-19 attendance numbers and the Southwest Minnesota State University men’s basketball program finished the season ranked 25th in average attendance among the more than 300 Division II basketball playing schools.

This past season, SMSU averaged 1,175 fans in its 17 games at the R/A Facility. A season-high 2,445 fans attended SMSU’s “Hawaiian Night” game versus Bemidji State on Feb. 2.

SMSU was among four Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools ranked among the top 25 nationally. As a conference, the NSIC ranked second in the nation in total attendance with 240,443 fans in 229 games/sessions and ranked second in average attendance with 1,050 per game.

SMSU finished the 2018-19 season with an 18-14 overall record and advanced to the championship game of the NSIC Tournament for the third straight season. SMSU has won a combined 71 games the last three seasons, which includes a pair of appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
