PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall takes sixth place in Brainerd Invite

BRAINERD – The Marshall girls golf team placed sixth at the Brainerd Invitational on Wednesday morning, shooting a team score of 385. Minnewaska took first with a 328, followed by Detroit Lakes (345), Brainerd (354), Bemidji (375) and Litchfield (383).

Rachel Schwarz led the way for Marshall with an 84 while Olivia Peterson shot 92, Ramsey Nelson had a 103 and Courtney Toulouse shot 106. Hannah Verkinderen shot 115 and Brooklyn Gossen had a 117 to round out their scores.

Marshall coach Gretchen Flynn said despite playing short-handed and facing some narrower fairways, they were able to play steady golf as a group.

“We are still playing short-handed because of AP testing so it won’t be until the conference tournament on Monday that we see what our full lineup looks like. The Classic was in great shape and the weather was beautiful. The course is different from most courses we play as it is more target golf with narrower fairways and forced carries over water,” Flynn said. “All of the girls had some trouble with either water or the enormous bunkers on the course but overall, played steady golf.”

Marshall will compete again today at Bunker Hills.
