DEI Commission committed to cultivating diverse backgrounds

Marshall Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Commission was formed in early 2021 with the mission to create and sustain ongoing dialogue, through which we explore inequities, share information, and be a change agent for race equity within our community. Midwinter chores

During our long, chilly winters – when it’s so cold outside that you wish you had stored your brass monkey someplace warm – a guy has no excuses and no choice but to tackle those indoor chores that he’d put off last summer. Numerous such chores present themselves. Chief among mine recently were replacing our bathroom and kitchen faucets. Both were still functioning, but both had, over the years, acquired unsightly surface deposits of whitish minerals. Professional plumbers call these deposits “hard water crud.” I tried to remove the deposits with vinegar and with powerful ...

Santa Claus legend should be remembered all throughout the year

We’re in the middle of January blahs; a cold, quiet time of the year when we can look back on memories made during the 2024 holiday season. Some of those memories relate to the legend of Santa Claus. We got a late start on the six-hour journey, so we decided to break it up by spending a night in a hotel at the halfway point. This option became imperative when we ran into an impenetrable wall of fog which, combined with the nighttime darkness, reduced visibility to approximately two feet beyond our headlights. “I can barely see two feet ahead of us!” muttered my wife who was at the wheel and has a penchant for stating the ...

In 2025, resolve to stay ahead of health risks

Each year, it’s important that you and all members of your family schedule an annual preventive health visit. You may know this as a yearly checkup, physical exam, well-woman exam, well-child visit, and so on. It’s that one chance each year to check in with your primary care provider, even if you feel great and have no health issues. This vital appointment is covered 100% by most health insurance plans — it’s considered that important, because it’s all about preventive care. This annual preventive visit allows your provider to know you and your health on an ongoing basis. ...
