Don’t let go
While talking with folks now, there is a thread that keeps running through our conversations.
It’s interesting to hear that common theme so many times from so many different people. Obviously it’s important to them. What’s that theme?
Don’t let go…
The biggest concern is letting go of one’s family history. I have repeatedly talked with people who grieve their lost family connections. I hear the same questions being asked about why their past relatives came to this country, from where and what did they experience. That family history tells a lot about who we are, and how we shouldn’t ignore our roots.
Always welcome the family member who asks you about your foremothers and forefathers. Pass on as much family information as possible. Yes, I know not all of our personal history is pleasing, but it’s there.
Urge yourself to write daily entries in your journal. Those daily entries are small stepping stones to building your family history. Then, talk with your family — don’t let go of yourself.
Much of what I learned about wine was picked up years ago. I sometimes take it for granted, and I shouldn’t do that. The world of wine is not simply sitting down and enjoying a glass of your favorite wine, however, don’t stop doing that! It’s so much more.
Each wine has a history that plays into the liquids taste, appearance, branding, production and marketing. There are moments when I think I should just move on to some other interest and retire the story of wine.
Oh no, that’s not going to happen! The universe of wine is in my history. I have numerous beautiful memories of the people I’ve met who produce wine, the multiple tastes I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying and the vineyards I’ve visited. I’ll never let go of wine!
Do you realize you never stop dreaming? I like C. S. Lewis’ statement about dreams: “You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream.” All of us have had dreams so why should we stop having them now? I expect we have all had a period of life when our dreams vanished, but somehow, another one was birthed and on we went.
Have you ever tried to interpret one of your night dreams? Well, based on my experience, good luck! Yet, we should dream how to live a more fulfilling life with the hope of enriching life for ourselves and others. I like to think we are reaching for the stars when we dream. Don’t let go of them.
What interests you? Whatever that is, nurture that interest and pass it on to others. Do we fully understand the genesis of that interest? Maybe, maybe not. Will I ever fully understand my interest in tasting wines, spirits or beers? Well, here’s what I’ve learned. Fully understanding something is not necessary for you to embrace an interest.
A friend of mine passed on to me a part of her family’s history. Within her family’s history is a phrase like this: “Don’t stop being interested and never stop being interesting.” That’s awesome! So, don’t let go of your interests — they are a very important ingredient in the recipe of you.
If you find enjoyment from reading, writing, talking, walking, learning or helping, that’s terrific! Enjoy what you enjoy and never let go of it.
Many of us like our silent moments. Those periods of solitude allow us to relax, refresh and readjust. Silence is a golden element for each of us. Seek it and savor it.
I’ll never let go of my wine glass so always be ready to fill it when we are together.
As always, eat and drink in moderation but laugh with reckless abandon!
Cheers!
