Invest in our future

To the editor: As data centers for artificial intelligence are being built across the country, many are located where there’s already a strong source of electricity. Here in rural Minnesota, we have an abundance of wind generators producing clean, renewable energy. Yet, much of this power is sent hundreds of miles away to the Twin Cities, with a significant portion lost during transmission. To the editor: The term “sanctuary city” was coined to imply that somehow undocumented immigrants can do whatever they want, while the police can do nothing. Immigrants here have to follow the same laws as everyone else. There’s not even a legal term “sanctuary city.” The Department of Homeland Security has added Lyon County (and many others) to a list of “sanctuary jurisdictions”, but nothing could be further from the truth. Another example of voting record

To the editor: It was great news to read the June 28-29 article of the progress of the Marshall Aquatic Center. No doubt this project will serve our citizens well. The article noted the city received $1.1 million in American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 funds, passed during the Biden Administration. As I noted in my recent letter (June 24), here is another example of our U.S. Rep. Michelle Fischbach voting against bills and projects that benefit her constituents and our local community. Marshall receives new ladder truck without Fischbach’s vote

To the editor: I was very pleased to read the June 18 Independent article of the “Marshall FD celebrates new ladder truck.” As do other citizens of the Marshall Fire Dept. Service area, I realize it is needed and will serve a good purpose. No doubt it was worth the two-year build period wait. It was noted of the $1.475 million dollar cost, $200,000 came from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
