Short Takes

A big thank you to medical workers

THUMBS UP:

As Americans deal with the COVID-19 pandemic we have to express appreciation to the first responders and those who work in the hospitals. We are now hearing the horrific stories in New York and other large cities of medical workers getting sick and some losing their lives to protect others. These are people carrying out selfless acts of courage. We also want to express our appreciation to the medical workers who are working in our community hospitals in southwest Minnesota. While the virus is not hitting us as hard as in other parts of the nation, we know these medical workers are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best – all in the interest of helping us get through these challenging times.

Making sure we have food

THUMBS UP:

There are many others that need to be recognized for helping their neighbors get through these tough times. How about the truckers who are rushing the goods to our grocery stores? How about stockers that keep the grocery shelves full? And the workers checking out groceries who are in close contact with customers.

Avoid bringing groups to stores

THUMBS DOWN:

Meanwhile, we still see parents bringing their children with them to the grocery store. Large groups in the grocery aisles goes against all the social distancing guidelines and are putting others at risk. If possible, send one family member to do the shopping.
