Michelle Simmons

MARSHALL–Michelle Simmons, age 58, of rural Marshall, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, as the result of an accident near her home. A Celebration of Life Memorial Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. The evening will conclude with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a time to share memories. Casual attire is highly encouraged as attendees are invited to wear Vikings clothing or her favorite color, pink. An online guestbook is available at www.hamiltonfh.com.

Michelle Ann Simmons was born on December 16, 1967, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the daughter of Steve and Carol (Drown) Simmons. She was baptized as an infant at the Methodist Church in Forest Park, Georgia, and was later confirmed in her faith at Wesley United Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Michelle attended school in Marshall and graduated with honors from Marshall High School with the class of 1984. She went on to further her education at Willmar Vocational College and then moved to Colorado where she attended nursing school. Michelle always had a thirst to learn new things and was proud of her education and work in the medical field.

Michelle married Troy Baune in the mid-1980s, and the couple had one son, Chris. They divorced a few years later, but Michelle continued her medical career in Minnesota, Colorado, Virginia, Florida, and Georgia. Michelle worked as a surgical technician, a registered nurse, and even served as an EMT in Milroy, once she moved back to Minnesota in 2018. Work was an escape for Michelle, and she truly cared for all the patients she was able to work with over the years. She also currently worked as the clothing manager at the Runnings store in Marshall.

Many have said that Michelle had unique relationships with each of her family members and really dialed in on special connections with each person, often including funny gifts – no matter how embarrassing. In her earlier years she was known as the family clown, a wild child, prankster, and enjoyed being the life of the party (when she chose to be). She enjoyed flower gardening, kept extensive collections of clothing and shoes, loved her animals, and was key in caring for her parents through their recent health concerns. She will be dearly missed.

Michelle Simmons died tragically on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, near her home. She reached the age of 58 years and 28 days. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her son, Chris Baune (and Halley Morlock) of Marshall; stepdaughter, Tiffany Prout of Arvada, CO; parents, Steve and Carol Simmons of Marshall; 4 siblings, Stacy (and Dennis) Mamer of St. Leo, Bon (and Melissa) Hill-Simmons of Richmond, Charron (and Eric) Remme of Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy (and Brent) Knapper of Marshall; beloved Pitbull, Bogart; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Michelle is preceded in death by her grandparents, Bob & Betty Simmons, Dwight & Agnes Drown, Bon & Maxine Hill; and her “second” father, Douglas Hill.
