Lois Ahlschlager

BALATON–The funeral service for Lois Ahlschlager, 85, of Balaton, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Balaton. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Balaton. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church. Interment will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton.

Lois Elaine (Gempeler) Ahlschlager was born on April 5, 1940, to Emil and Lottie (Persons) Gempeler in Tracy, Minnesota. She was the second of four children. In 1944 her family moved from Tracy to Balaton. She graduated from Balaton High School in 1958, where she was active in band, choir, FHA. After graduation she attended Mankato State College graduating in 1962 with her teaching degree. She taught in Barrett, Morris, Raymond and Balaton before retiring in 1998.

Lois was united in marriage to Harlan Ahlschlager on December 5, 1964, at the Presbyterian Church of Balaton. Their first home was in Clara City, MN, however in June 1967, they moved back to Balaton to their forever home where they raised their two children, Joyce and Jeffrey.

Lois was very active in her community and enjoyed sharing her talents. She was active in the Balaton and Tracy community bands; Lyon Co. blood mobile; St. Peter’s Lutheran Church banner committee, Ladies Aide and directing the church choir; Lake Shetek quilters; and her beloved bowling team. She was passionate about her music and making beautiful quilts and craft projects that she shared abundantly.

Lois passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30th, at Murray County Hospice House in Slayton, surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her husband of 60 yrs, Harlan; daughter, Joyce (Thomas) Nordin of Otsego, MN; son, Jeffrey (Melissa) Ahlschlager of Worthington, MN; Grandchildren; Ross (Morgan) Hoffman of Canby, MN; Jacob (Mary) Hoffman of Lynd, MN; Benjamen (Kristin) Ahlschlager of Mankato, MN; Bonus Grandchildren; John (Kallie) Nordin of Cottonwood, MN and Eliana (Harry) Nordin of Victoria, MN. Great-Grandchildren; Chevelle, Cheyenne, Chella, Hunter, Hope and Isabell. Bonus Great-Grandchildren; Addison, Greyson and Lana. Sister, Janice (Robert) Kirsh of Bellvue, OH; Sister-in-law, Phyllis Ahlschlager of Balaton, Brother-in-law, Royce Osborn of Eugene, OR.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; brother, Gary; sister, Laurna; 5 brothers-in-law, 6 sisters-in-law.
