YELLOW MEDICINE COUNTY – Two people were taken to the hospital in a crash reported at 4:40 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 75, Minnesota State Patrol said. A 2004 Ford pickup with a trailer driven by Nathan Smith of Morris was jackknifed and blocking the lane of Highway 75 when Minnesota State Patrol arrived on scene. Shortly after, Eric Diekmann of Canby, a responding firefighter, arrived in a 2007 Ford and parked behind the squad car, State Patrol said. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 16-year-old male, lost control and rear ended the 2007 Ford, State Patrol said. The 2007 Ford was then pushed off at an angle, missed the squad car, and hit the 2004 Ford, State Patrol said. Diekmann was taken to Sanford Canby with non-life-threatening injuries, and the 16-year-old was also taken to Sanford Canby, State Patrol said.
