Six injured in Montevideo crash

MONTEVIDEO — A total of six people, including five juveniles, were injured in a head-on crash Wednesday evening in the city of Montevideo. Montevideo Police said one person hurt in the crash was airlifted by helicopter due to the severity of their injuries. A two-vehicle collision was reported on River Road in Montevideo around 5:18 p.m., Police said. Responders had to extricate occupants of one of the vehicles. Criminal sexual conduct charges dismissed against Ivanhoe man

IVANHOE — Criminal charges have been dismissed against an Ivanhoe man who was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in 2023, Lincoln County District Court records said. The dismissal comes after the Minnesota Court of Appeals overturned a conviction for Aren Franc Hatton, and sent the case back to Lincoln County for a new trial. Last year, the state Court of Appeals filed an opinion reversing Hatton’s convictions for kidnapping and third degree criminal sexual conduct. Garvin generator plant moves forward

GARVIN — Xcel Energy will be moving forward with building a natural gas-powered generating plant near Garvin this summer. On Thursday, Xcel announced it had received approvals for the project from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Construction on the 420-megawatt Lyon County Generating Station is planned to start later this summer, Xcel Energy said in a news release. The plant will be a peaking plant, which is used to supply power to the electric grid during periods of high demand or when wind and solar energy are not available. MARSHALL — This week, the Marshall City Council gave their approval to new state legislation that makes it possible for Southwest Minnesota State University to sell beer and wine on campus during sporting events.
