Monday night fire displaces Marshall residents
MARSHALL — A Monday night fire displaced the residents of a Marshall apartment building. An American Red Cross spokesperson said Tuesday that a total of six people were affected by the fire. Marshall Fire Chief Quentin Brunsvold said no injuries were reported to people, but a dog in one of the apartments died.
Brunsvold said the Marshall Fire Department received a call around 11:09 p.m. Monday for a fire in an apartment at 501 Village Drive. The occupant of the apartment had returned home to find the fire, he said.
Brunsvold said there was a lot of thick black smoke in the apartment building, which prevented some residents from leaving by the stairs. A resident of the only occupied apartment on the building’s second floor escaped by jumping from a window, Brunsvold said. Brunsvold said the tenant was uninjured. Another resident of the building was assisted out by Marshall Police, he said.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist residents of the apartment building. The fire is under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office, Brunsvold said.
