Montevideo man gets three years sentence for shooting incident
MARSHALL — A Montevideo man charged in connection with an incident where shots were fired at a Marshall hotel was sentenced in Lyon County District Court this week.
Ed Lawrence Robert Torres, Jr., 22, received a three-year prison sentence for charges of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, Lyon County court records said. Torres pleaded guilty to second degree assault in August.
A criminal complaint alleged that in August 2024, Torres was with his girlfriend and another person at a room at the EverSpring Inn and Suites in Marshall, when Torres got in an argument with his girlfriend. The third person got between Torres and his girlfriend, and Torres allegedly fired multiple shots from a handgun, the complaint said. No one was shot in the incident, the criminal complaint said.
Court records said Torres was charged with two counts of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless discharge of a firearm in a municipality, intentional discharge of a firearm that endangers safety, and two counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition after a domestic assault conviction.
Torres appeared in Lyon County District Court on Tuesday for a sentencing hearing, court records said. He was sentenced to 36 months in prison, with credit for 118 days served, for the second degree assault charge. At least two years of that sentence will be served in prison, and a maximum of one year will be served on supervised release, court records said. If Torres commits disciplinary offenses, he may be required to serve the whole sentence in prison.
The five other charges against Torres were dismissed, court records said.
