MARSHALL — Fall is harvest time, and this week residents at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center have been celebrating the season with a Harvest Festival.
“This is our first Harvest Festival,”said Morningside Heights Activities Coordinator Jacki Cook. Cook said residents have taken part in autumn-themed games and activities over the course of the week. On Monday, residents crowned festival royalty, with Harvey Serreyn and Marilyn Smith being crowned king and queen. Residents also enjoyed a performance from a local guitarist, Cook said.
On Wednesday, a small parade of tractors came by Morningside Heights for residents to see.
“The 1949 John Deere was a hit,” Cook said. Titan Machinery also brought some newer tractors, she said.
“There were many smiles, and people asking ‘What kind of tractor is that?'” Cook said.
After the parade, residents enjoyed fall treats like apple pie. Cook said throughout this week, she had planned activities like fall crafts, and festival-style games like a duck pond.
Cook said she hoped to bring the festival back “bigger and better” next year. She also wanted to do other seasonal celebrations with residents.
“We’re already trying to think of what to do for Thanksgiving week,” she said.
