Action-packed weekend

Cottonwood Coming Home Days and the Murray County Classic Draft Horse Show in Slayton drew big crowds this past weekend, according to event officials.

“All the events were very well attended. I think the weather helped immensely,” said Stacey Broberg, chair of the Coming Home Days Committee. “It was one of the nicest Coming Home Days we’ve had in a while.” Broberg said she had heard good comments from people who attended Coming Home Days, including some of the new events like free ax-throwing, new food vendors, and live music.

Community members also turned out for the Coming Home Days parade. Broberg said the parade had about 35 to 40 units pre-registered, and often more units join the day of the parade. Broberg said she marched in the parade this weekend. Based on the time it took to complete the route, there were lots of units taking part, she said. “It took us around a half-hour from the time we started to the end of the route, and there were still quite a few people behind us,” she said. The streets along the route were pretty full, too, she said.

“I think everyone was happy with how it turned out,” Broberg said. She said she wanted to thank the community organizations and sponsors who all made the festival possible. “Without them, there would not be as many events.”

Starting at $3.95/week.
