Lewis, Sturges lead MCC to win over No. 6 RTR

SLAYTON — Carson Lewis’ 147 rushing yards and Jordan Sturges’ pair of touchdowns led the Murray County Central football team to a 44-12 win over No. 6 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Friday night, handing the Knights their first loss of the season.

The Rebels scored in all four quarters, while RTR attempted to make a late push with a touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters.

MCC overall had 464 total yards, to RTR’s 200.

Lewis’ 147 rushing yards came on 12 carries, while Sturges followed with 136 yards on 11 carries. Gabriel Tentinger also had 82 yards on six carries.

RTR quarterback Gavin Schreurs had 132 total passing yards with 15 complete passes on 29 attempts for one touchdown.

Teague Meyer had two complete passes on three attempts for 50 passing yards.

On the receiving end, Brayden Chandler had a team-high 97 yards on nine catches for the Knights. Braden Nibbe followed with 85 yards on a trio of catches.

Max Mathiason led the Rebels with 31 receiving yards on one catch.

Luke Iverson had three sacks on the night for MCC, while Quinten Lewis and Noah Mathiowitz had six and five assisted tackles, respectively. Carter Hansen also had an interception.

Sturges scored his two touchdowns on a 12-yard run in the first quarter, and again in the fourth on a 46-yard rush.

Tentinger, Lewis, Mathiason and Caleb Rosenbrook also each had a touchdown for the Rebels.

Garrett Elton and Braden Nibbe each had a touchdown for RTR.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (3-1) returns to Tyler next week, hosting Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (1-2) at 7 p.m.

Murray County Central (2-2) travels to Madison on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup against Lac qui Parle Valley (0-3).
