Marshall announces release of custom beers

Four exclusive brews now available at Tall Grass Liquor

MARSHALL — A series of four Brau Brothers beers developed in collaboration with the city of Marshall and Southwest Minnesota State University are now available at Tall Grass Liquor. The city unveiled three brews representing the Marshall community on Tuesday.

The first of the exclusive beers, Mustang Golden Ale, was unveiled earlier this month, in time for SMSU’s homecoming.

“We are excited to be able to offer these one-of-a-kind, limited edition craft beers, said Tall Grass manager Eric Luther. “Customers often tell me they are looking for unique, locally brewed craft beer, and this collaboration offers them just that.”

Marshall City Council members got a look at the exclusive beer can designs during Luther’s staff report to the council Tuesday evening. Luther said the city, Brau Brothers and SMSU had been working on the project since around January or February.

“This is a wonderful collaboration between SMSU, the city of Marshall, Tall Grass Liquor and Brau Brothers,” said Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes.

Luther gave an overview of the three Marshall-themed beers. “One is called Brew 1872, which is a nod to the establishment of Marshall, and the year it was established. That’s an amber ale,” he said. “We have Cultivate, which we’ve had before in bigger cans or crowlers. That’s a pale ale, and it kind of celebrates our tagline of Marshall – ‘Cultivating the best in us.'”

Cultivate Pale Ale was the city of Marshall’s first collaboration with Brau Brothers. It was originally released in 2020 in conjunction with city branding efforts. Until now, it was only available at the Brau Brothers tap house.

The third exclusive beer, Jiminey Jumper Juicy Light Apple Lager, is a nod to Tall Grass Liquor’s grasshopper mascot, Luther said.

The four exclusive beer varieties will be available in six-packs at Tall Grass Liquor while supplies last.

“We hope that we can continue to enjoy locally, drink locally, and have kind of a celebration of the things that we have in Marshall,” Luther said.

Starting at $3.95/week.
