MARSHALL — There will be a total of three Lyon County Commissioners running for re-election this year. Commissioner Rick Anderson, who represents Commissioner District 5, said this week he intends to file for re-election.

“The time I have spent on the board has been great, and I decided that there were some things that I would like to see to the end with one more term,” Anderson said Thursday.

Anderson has served on the County Board since 2011. He is a rural Balaton resident. In District 5, he represents an area including the cities of Russell, Florence, Balaton, Garvin and Tracy as well as townships in the southern part of Lyon County.

As part of the county board, Anderson currently serves on boards and committees including the Marshall-Lyon County Library Board, the Regional EMS Board, Rural Water, and Southwest Health and Human Services. He also serves in committees for the Association of Minnesota Counties, and state committees including the Citizens Advisory Committee for the University of Minnesota Extension, the Legacy Advisory Committee on Parks and Trails, and the Greater Minnesota Parks and Trails Commission.

Three out of Lyon County’s five commissioner seats will be up for election this fall. Commissioner Todd Draper has announced he will run for re-election in Commissioner District 2, which includes Ward 2 of the city of Marshall. Commissioner and current Lyon County Board chairman Gary Crowley said he plans to run for re-election in District 4, which includes the cities of Ghent, Minneota, Taunton and Cottonwood, as well as townships in the northern part of the county.

The filing period for county offices in Minnesota will be from May 21 to June 4, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office.
