MARSHALL — A hearing for a man charged in connection with a 2019 house fire was held Thursday in Lyon County District Court, court records said. Online district court records said bail was set for Tyson Joe Hinckley, and a future date for a scheduling conference was set in June.

Hinckley, 38, was charged with first degree arson, second degree burglary and motor vehicle theft, in connection with a fire that destroyed a house and attached garage in rural Lyon County in 2019. He was convicted of those charges in 2022, but the Minnesota Supreme Court sent the case back to Lyon County for a new trial.

A Supreme Court opinion ruled that Hinckley should have been given the opportunity to use a mental-illness defense at his trial.

At Thursday’s hearing, bail was set at $85,000 without conditions, or $50,000 with conditions including that Hinckley stays in Minnesota, that he does not use alcohol or drugs, and that he has no contact with the victims and stays a reasonable distance from their residence.

A scheduling conference was set for June 25.
