MARSHALL — Area law enforcement blocked off part of a major street in Marshall for at least three hours on Wednesday while the Brown Lyon Redwood Renville Emergency Response Unit responded to an incident on the 100 block of East Main Street.

Officers at the scene didn’t comment on what was happening in the incident, but Lyon County Sheriff Eric Wallen said the Sheriff’s Department was assisting Marshall Police. Around 5 p.m., law enforcement diverted traffic away from the 100 block of East Main Street, and numerous Marshall Police and Lyon County Sheriff’s Department officers could be seen in the area. Police told people on the sidewalk along the 100 block of Main Street to either stay inside their homes or leave the area.

Some Marshall residents in the neighborhood near the 100 block of East Main Street said they also received emergency messages on their landline phones, telling them to stay indoors until further notice. The BLRR emergency response unit gathered near the intersection of Main and First streets, and around 7:30 p.m., ERU members parked two vehicles — one with a ramming device attached outside a house and nearby apartment building on the 100 block of East Main Street.

As of 9 p.m., part of East Main Street was still barricaded, and the ERU was still stationed outside the buildings.

Law enforcement from departments including the New Ulm Police, Redwood Falls Police and the Redwood County Sheriff’s Department could be seen at the ERU staging area.
