One dead in shooting in Marshall

Male tased, shot after stabbing that critically injured one person

MARSHALL — One person is dead after a shooting early Sunday morning, when Marshall Police responded to a domestic disturbance. Marshall Police said the person who was shot had stabbed a female victim, who is in critical condition at a Sioux Falls hospital.

The Marshall Police Department has asked the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate the shooting.

Around 2:40 a.m., Marshall Police responded to a domestic disturbance on the 500 block of Brussels Court. At the scene, a Marshall Police officer saw a female being stabbed by a male, a news release said. The officer made contact with the male subject.

The news release said a taser was deployed, and at one point during the officer’s contact with the male, shots were fired. Life-saving measures were performed after the shooting, but the male died at the scene, Marshall Police said. The female stabbing victim was airlifted to Sioux Falls, Police said.

Marshall Police said there is currently no threat to the public, as the stabbing was not believed to be a random attack.

“A loss of life is always incredibly sad and impactful to the family and the community,” Marshall Public Safety Director Jim Marshall said in the news release.
