Marshall School Board renews superintendent contract

MARSHALL — The Marshall School Board voted to renew Superintendent Jeremy Williams’ contract this week. On Monday, board members approved a three-year contract with Williams that would go through June of 2027.

At the same meeting, board members said Williams was meeting or exceeding job expectations in a variety of areas. “The school board was pleased with his performance, and the work that was done focusing on student achievement,” board chairman Matt Coleman said.

The board approved a superintendent contract with Williams that runs from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027. Under the terms of the contract, the superintendent’s base annual salary would be $170,000 for the 2024-25 school year, $175,000 for 2025-26, and $180,000 for 2026-27.

Under the contract, Williams would also be eligible for an incentive bonus for achieving stretch goal performance goals. The incentive pay would be a lump sum payment of up to $4,500 for each year of the contract. Incentive pay is to be paid based on the school board’s recommendation and assessment of whether the performance goals were reached.

Coleman went over a summary of Williams’ annual performance review at the school board meeting. He said part of the performance review process included an online evaluation completed by school board members, district office staff and school administrators.

“The evaluation consisted of five sections, with various rating areas in each section,” Coleman said. The five sections of the superintendent evaluation included leadership, district culture and communications; policy, governance, political influence and law; strategic planning and organizational management; school culture and learning; and management of resources. Staff and board members were asked to rank Williams’ performance on a scale of 1 to 4, with 4 representing “distinguished” performance.

According to the results of the evaluation, Williams met or exceeded expectation in each of the categories, Coleman said. His ranking across all categories was 3.14 out of 4, according to the summary.
