Crash near Tracy leaves 2 dead, 2 injured

Second collision with ambulance reported in same area

TRACY — Two people were killed, and two injured in a crash Wednesday night on U.S. Highway 14, the Minnesota State Patrol said. On Thursday, the State Patrol identified the two people killed as Maiyang Moua, 55, of Tracy, and Saibert Moua, 67, of Tracy.

The fatal crash was not the only crash reported on that stretch of Highway 14 Wednesday night. Another collision involving an ambulance was reported at the intersection of Highway 14 and the Lyon-Redwood County Road, the State Patrol said. Three people were injured in that crash.

The fatal crash was reported at 8:29 p.m. Wednesday, on Highway 14 between Tracy and Walnut Grove. A 2002 Toyota Sienna driven by Maiyang Moua was traveling south on Balsa Avenue, and a 2005 Toyota Sequoia driven by Victor V. Lee, 48, of Walnut Grove, was eastbound on Highway 14. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, the State Patrol said.

The occupants of the Sienna were both killed in the crash, the State Patrol said. Saibert Moua was not wearing a seat belt, the State Patrol reported.

Lee was transported to the Westbrook hospital with life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the Sequoia, 40-year-old Kia Xiong of Walnut Grove, was taken to Avera Marshall Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said.

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Walnut Grove Fire and Ambulance, and Tracy Ambulance all responded at the crash scene.

Second crash involved collision with ambulance

A second collision, involving a 2016 Chevrolet ambulance, was reported at 8:55 p.m., at the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 and the Lyon-Redwood County Road, the State Patrol said. The ambulance and a 1979 Jeep driven by Donald Dean Hanson, 77, of Tracy, were both eastbound on Highway 14 when they collided, the State Patrol said.

Hanson was taken to Sanford Tracy Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. The ambulance driver, 73-year-old Charles Louis Deschepper of Tracy, and a passenger, 55-year-old Kimberly Kay Pedersen, of Tracy, also went to Sandford Tracy with non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said.

Tracy Police, Fire and Ambulance, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, responded at the crash scene.
